Many successful companies can trace their humble beginnings to kitchen tables. Rita Rugs can truthfully say they started their business on a living room floor.
When Rita Rugs founder Sudershan Goel (his friends call him Shan) first came to America from his native India, he worked long, hard hours for minimum wage. During this difficult time, Shan's father in India sent him a consignment of handmade Oriental rugs to try to sell. Not cheap rugs, but top quality handmade carpets.
What started as a helping hand from family across the world grew into something much larger. Shan's dedication to quality and authentic craftsmanship, combined with his deep understanding of Oriental rug traditions, laid the foundation for what would become one of Chicago's most trusted rug destinations.
Today, Rita Rugs continues this legacy of excellence, offering customers not just beautiful rugs, but pieces of history and artistry that connect homes to centuries-old traditions of craftsmanship.
